Children's Ministry

for Children Age 2 – Kindergarten

St. Mark’s SPARK Sunday School helps young children experience God, meet their friend Jesus and come to know God’s Word as they walk through the key Old and New Testament Bible stories of the Bible.  Old Testament stories are studied in the fall quarter and the New Testament stories in the winter and spring quarters.

Your child can take the Bible stories home each Sunday in the beautiful SPARK Story Bible, used weekly in Sunday school and available for families to purchase for use at home for $20.00.  See Rev. Touchton about ordering a SPARK Story Bible for your growing young Christian!

Our Ages 2 and 3, Age 4 and Pre-K, and Kindergarten classes will begin their journey through the Bible this Sunday, August 13th, 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. in the classrooms listed below.  We hope to see your child in SPARK Sunday school!

Ages 2 and 3, Room 307

Age 4/Pre-K, Room 305

Kindergarten, Room 302

Classroom teachers, helpers and substitutes are always needed!  Excellent curriculum and all supplies are provided.  If you are willing to serve in this way, please speak to your child’s teacher or Rev. Martha Touchton.

Welcome to 5th/6th Grade at St. Mark’s!

Tweens entering Grades 5 & 6 are embarking on a year-long journey through the Bible on Sunday mornings, 9:45-10:45 in Room 212.  CONNECT helps tweens explore the relationship between the Old and New Testaments using videos, Bible exploration, and hands-on projects. Every Connect lesson follows a three-part sequence: See, Explore, and Make.  Each week, tweens focus on and reinforce a theme by watching a witty video, exploring biblical text, and creating projects that range from games to art and more.  You can learn more about CONNECT by visiting

CONNECT participants are encouraged to highlight and √markê in their Bibles during class!    The curriculum offers a special CONNECT BIBLE for $20.00 that also includes exploration exercises for each lesson; there is a sample Bible in the classroom.  Please let Rev. Touchton know ASAP if you would like to order one of these special Bibles for your 5th or 6th Grader!

We are blessed to have two EXCELLENT Bible teachers leading this class, Becky Latta and Samantha Daniel.   Additional parents are needed to serve as shepherds for this group, giving general assistance and support and ensuring that there are two adults present in the classroom at all times.   If you would be willing to serve in this way on a rotating basis, please contact one of the teachers or Rev. Martha to sign up.

The 45-week confirmation study used last year, Colaborate, has three components: 15 weeks of study on the Old Testament, 15 weeks on the New Testament, and 15 weeks on the United Methodist Church.   Since the 6th graders are participating in the “CONNECT” study throughout the Sunday school year, all that remains for them to complete for confirmation is the section on United Methodism.

Becky Latta has graciously volunteered to head up this section of the confirmation study at another time other than Sunday mornings, beginning in 2018.  As in previous years, confirmands would also complete a service project and participate in other special events in preparation for confirmation.  In addition to our 6th graders, this class may also include a few 7th and 8th graders who missed confirmation in previous years.

Parent help and support will be needed for this endeavor as well.   Please let Becky Latta or Rev. Touchton know if you are interested in serving in a supportive role for this course in 2018.

Our church policy is as follows: We understand that weather and road conditions may improve later in the day, but if the Murfreesboro City Schools are closed, all Wednesday night programming is cancelled.  During other times of the week, for those who are able to get here safely, meetings and programs will be held at the discretion of the chairperson or group leader.

The church office will be open if possible, though it may not be fully staffed for its’ regular hours.  Staff members will be available via e-mail.

In the event of a significant amount of ice or snow on a weekend, early service and Sunday school will be canceled. For those who are able to get here safely, we will have worship in the Sanctuary at 11:00.   Our website and Facebook page will give you the updated information. In addition, the staff of the church will communicate with their respective groups and classes via email, text, social media, or phone.
